All of the above occurred recently. Oh, joy. We had a duff ‘net connection for weeks, yet BT kept telling me – after testing the phone line – that there was nothing wrong with it. Grump. I changed the microfilters. Then I changed the cables. Then I went to a lot of trouble to connect the router directly to the master socket in order to eliminate internal wiring. Then I changed the router. Finally, risking a big bill from BT, I called in an engineer. Guess what? The line from the pole to the house was in such a poor condition that he said it was a miracle we had any connection at all. Grump. Line replaced, great connection, no more crackling on voice calls. Happy Gill. For a while …….. Earlier tonight I came across a link to a photographer’s site where he’s displaying an amazing 17 gigapixel panorama of Yosemite. “Wow” I thought “I know a lot of the regulars on a photography forum I frequent would like to see that.” So today happens to be the day before the Election in the USA, and the photographer happens to be a supporter of one of the candidates. When you go to his site, there are two short splash screens – a few seconds each – before the main page, image and links display. The first says “Stand for change”, the second “Obama 08″. Political, yes, but compared to so much else I’ve seen during this campaign, practically neutral. Now, I’m not entirely without tact (shut up at the back) & am well aware that there are some pretty heated and extremely partisan views held in some quarters so when I posted a link to the site, I “warned” that these two screens would come up. I also posted a link direct to the image but that page omits links to information and other images which would also be of interest to many viewers. Continue reading Some people are way too touchy Orbittrap *big sigh* Yes, I broke my new vow to myself as a result of a comment made by a friend and went to read their latest post. Here’s a few of the adjectives that popped into my head while reading it: Pathetic If their motives weren’t so blatantly venal, this latest drivel would be laughable in its desperation. It’s rather like a poor-man’s version of the Daily Mail: take one spurious connection, twist it to fit your own agenda and prejudices, make sure your blinkers are carefully obscuring any view of reality and bingo! you have total bollox with zero credibility. Yeah, it’s an old phrase (I believe it was even funny at one stage The self-styled guardians of ethics and professionalism over at OT are still banging the drum about the Fractal Universe Calendar. Poor lovies haven’t had a reply from the publishers *waaaaaaaah*. Good job I’m not the publisher: I’d have replied and told them to take their impertinent noses out of my business post-haste. Mind you, I’d have used less words and a grand total of 7 letters to do so I have to laugh at the scale of their hypocrisy when they feel it is OK for them to use spurious arguments to try and make a point – all in the name of “ethics and professionalism” of course *cough* bullshit*cough* – and yet it’s OK for them to blatantly misrepresent other people’s words and actions. Clean your own house up, boys, before tackling anyone else’s. Here are some of my favourite relevant quotations:
…but, like the proverbial trainwreck, it’s compulsive. And leaves one with a nasty taste in one’s mouth. OrbitTrap is, still, going out of its way to make mountains out of molehills and proving itself a master of misinterpretation, spin and delusion. It’s all very well people ignoring them but alternative views can, and should, be visible. Which is not likely to happen actually at OT as long as they continue to moderate all posts and not publish ones expressing contrary opinions, or simply ban the people who disagree with them. So I’m going to bore the pants off you all in the near future with my views on the calendar and BMFAC but you could do a lot worse than read the comprehensive posts Ken’s already made at Escape to Infinity. In the meantime, this is what I posted a few minutes ago which is presently in moderation limbo. Any bets on whether it gets published or not?
